Sunset Sunrise: Skomvaer Print Sale
These video stills are taken from Sunset Sunrise: Skomvær, which will premiere online December 5 at 8pm CST. I recorded this footage from the Skomvær Lighthouse in the Arctic archipelago of Lofoten/Lofuota in Sápmi (Norway), ancestral land of the coastal Sami, while staying at Røst AiR. It shows the sun setting and rising in a single continuous arc across the horizon in the late summer. The timelapse video moves so slowly it is almost imperceptible, yet these prints show how it also moves through dramatic changes in light and color. This project is an invitation to reflect on how the climate catastrophe is becoming perceptible in real time in places like the Arctic, if you take the time to observe. For example, there is now silence at the base of the mountainous bird cliffs in the distance, which were once so noisy with calls and caws you could not hear each other on a boat going past them. This video is also an invitation to feel renewed in our power and our gratitude, waking each day under the life-giving sun.
Prints are 8" x 10" on photo paper with a satin finish and printed by Latitude, a nonprofit community digital lab.
